This Week's Dilemmas

My in-laws are making me want to cancel my wedding.

My fiancé and I originally wanted to elope, but our families convinced us to have a wedding so they could celebrate with us. We compromised and planned a tiny, 15-person wedding — immediate family, grandparents and a few friends who have been part of our 10-year relationship. To keep it intimate, we decidedno aunts, uncles or plus-ones. On either side.

Now, two months before the wedding, his family is furious that his aunts and uncles weren’t invited. His parents and brother have told him we’re doing the “wrong thing,” compared him to an estranged relative and have even threatened to stop speaking to us. They’ve also questioned whymy own half-sister gets an invitation while his extended family doesn’t.

Here’s the thing: I’ve never even met these relatives. They live across the country, haven’t visited or reached out during our entire relationship, and inviting them would mean opening the guest list to extended family on my side too. Suddenly, our 15-person wedding becomes closer to 50 people. And we’re paying for it. My fiancé and I are covering 90%, with my parents gifting us the remaining 10%. His family isn’t offering to cover the additional guests they’re demanding.

Invitations are already out. The venue and catering are booked. I’ve already spent around $5K. At this point, I feel like our options are to give in, have his family skip the wedding, deal with them being miserable the entire day… or cancel everything and elope like we wanted to in the first place.

I’m genuinely getting to the point where I want to choose the last option.Am I wrong for refusing to invite his extended family? Or have my future in-laws completely crossed the line?

Meal or No Meal?

Hi all! I\'m not sure how to phrase this. My fiancé and I are planning for an Oct wedding, and as of now have approx 100 guests. We are fairly low budget and one suggestion that seems doable without being tacky was just not having a meal. Marrying later in the day, providing “snacks” throughout the night (pizza, sliders, wings etc).

-Has anyone done this, seen it done, or have thoughts about it?

-Is this as hella tacky as I’m afraid it is?

-How would one approach the venue to do this? I feel like the majority of venues I’ve looked at online have their meals worked into pricing.

Please help me!

Thanks! This is exciting but overwhelming!

Should We Risk an Outdoor Wedding in Ontario

Ive always dreamed of getting married outside, but what if it rains?

We\'ve fallen in love with the idea of an outdoor ceremony. We picture saying our vows surrounded by nature, sunshine, and all of our favourite people. The problem is that we\'re getting married in Ontario, and the weather can be unpredictable.

Everyone keeps asking what our rain plan is, and now I\'m starting to worry. Do we spend extra money on a tent? Should we choose a venue with an indoor backup space? Am I overthinking it?

Part of me wants to take the risk because outdoor weddings are exactly what I\'ve always imagined. Another part of me is worried that one rainy day could ruin years of planning.

For couples who had outdoor weddings, wedding planners, photographers, and venue owners: how did you handle the possibility of rain? Is it worth planning for every scenario, or should we trust that everything will work out?
